Transcript

In today’s meditation, we look at another Advent prophecy given by God to Moses many, many years before Jesus came to earth. This is Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse 18. And God is speaking through Moses, saying, I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers, and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.

Moses is told by God that another prophet is coming, a prophet who is going to come out of Israel. He will be a true prophet, because God’s words are going to be put directly into his mouth, and he’s going to speak them on God’s behalf. Everything that God says to him, He will say, and this is what we see in Jesus.

Jesus came as the perfect, sinless Prophet, because unlike Moses, Jesus put his full faith in God. He trusted him all the way through to a painful death and beyond. He is a purer, greater, more righteous, more holy prophet than Moses, which means we can trust every word that he says.

And Moses saw this before his own death and many years before Christ came to earth. He saw that another prophet was going to come that would lead Israel and then would bring the Gentiles grafted into a new covenant that God was giving us through the death of Christ. Jesus the prophet was announced long before he arrived.

Thank you, God, that you gave us Jesus to speak your words to us. Thank you that we can trust him because all his words are true. Please help us to follow his words, to follow his life, to pattern ourselves after him, and to walk his way until he returns and we meet you face to face. Amen.
