It’s fantastic at Advent to look at what happened to Mary. In Luke chapter 1 verses 30 to 31, we read this, And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call him Jesus."
First of all, an angel’s just appeared to Mary, and this angel is saying, Hey, don’t worry. It’s all cool. Don’t be afraid. What do you think Mary might have felt about that? Oh my goodness, there’s an angel, a messenger of God.
Now Mary was a devout woman and she understood that this was a true message coming from the real God. But how her heart must have been touched to know, to hear, that from the most important person in her life she had received favour. And then the angel goes on to say, This is what’s going to happen to you. You’re going to have a child. You’re going to call him Jesus. And Mary goes along with this.
Do you ever wonder what it might be like to see that sort of favour in your life from God? We are able to receive the benefit of the work that Jesus did after he came through Mary onto this earth, lived and then died, securing our eternal future. We indeed have found favour with God. It looks different for us compared to what it looked like for Mary, but it is an extreme blessing, nevertheless. We will be with God forever, in eternity. And he will call us his children. Let’s just take that in a moment, and worship.
