For King David, one of the greatest legacies he could give was to have an enduring, kind, good kingship.
And this is what God says to him. Your time will come to an end, but after that, your kingship will last forever.
And there was only one way that this could come about, a supernatural way, because the natural kingship appears on this earth to have died out. But, we know that the Messiah came from the line of David. This is proven to us in the Gospels and Jesus is referred to in the Gospels as the King of the Jews.
