Behold the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will fulfil the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous branch to spring up for David and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.
This makes me think about King David who was the archetypal righteous king. Now David did a lot of things wrong that the Bible doesn’t approve of, like the multiplicity of wives and concubines, but nevertheless he’s often described as a man after God’s heart, passionate for God. And God, in his grace, makes this incredible promise to David that he will always have someone sitting on the throne.
