Sometimes we forget how important it is to worship God because we forget who he is and what he’s like. Jeremiah reminds us, so let’s meditate on Jeremiah 10 verse 7. Who would not fear you, O King of the nations? For this is your due. For among all the wise ones of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like you.
We like watching TV programs, don’t we, where people are pitted against each other and the best wins. We like to see who’s the strongest, the fastest, the cleverest. And in all of these measurements, no one comes close to God. Among all the wisest people in the world, out of every single nation, no one approaches his level of wisdom. There is just nobody like God who we will ever meet.
During the time that Jesus was on this earth, people met him, but they didn’t really know who he was in all his glory and splendor. They got a glimpse, they didn’t get the full revelation.
Jeremiah is starting to understand this, and he’s saying there’s nobody approaches you. Really anybody who knows you, God, anybody who knows anything of what you’re like will understand that you must be feared in terms of reverence and awe.
God, we fear you, we respect you, we honour you. We lay down our hearts and our lives to you. Because you deserve that. That is your due. You are the greatest on every level that counts.
There’s no one like God. And this is why we have to come back to worship. And this is why it’s so important that amongst our various different times of meditation, we include worship in that.
Let’s pray with Jeremiah. God, who would not fear you, O King of the nations, for this is your due. For among all the wise ones of all the nations, in all the worlds, and in all their kingdoms, their dominions, their principalities, their countries, there is no one like you, God. We worship you. Amen.
