What must it be like to be an immortal eternal being? The one God who has ultimate power over everything? Jeremiah’s mind was blown by this and I think ours might be too as we meditate. Jeremiah 32 verse 17. Ah Lord God it is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.

Do you ever think about that? Do you ever think about the universe? Do you look up into the night sky, see all the stars, and think, gosh, somebody put them all there! These stars that we couldn’t possibly reach if we set out now and travelled our entire lifetime. We wouldn’t make it to those stars. If there even were a spaceship that could carry us there.

God has created this vast universe, the heavens and the earth. What sort of power must be required to bring all of that into existence? We can’t imagine it. If that power came into our bodies, our bodies would explode. We can’t contain that.

And so Jeremiah concludes, nothing is too hard for God. He can literally do anything. He is omnipotent, all powerful.

So when we look at the chaos in the world, the difficulties in our lives, the suffering that sometimes we have to endure, let’s remind ourselves that nothing is too hard for God. Let us remind ourselves of his wisdom, the wisdom that sometimes allows us to walk through hardship, knowing that he could, if he chose to, end all problems just like that. And he will, in his good time. Nothing is too hard for him.

Let’s pray with Jeremiah. Lord God, it is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. Amen.
