It’s funny how often the meditation verses show up what a bad Christian I am. Today it’s Romans 12 verse 12 doing the honours. It says, Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

How well do I measure up to that verse? Scripture just shines a light on us, doesn’t it, and it shows us our need of a Saviour, because we can’t really measure up to all of the standards that God holds, because He’s perfect; we are not able to be perfect. Thank God for Jesus, who covers up all those imperfections. So there’s absolutely no need for anyone to fall into condemnation here.

But we are nevertheless spurred on, we’re led on by this verse. Rejoicing in hope. Well, I’m okay with that one. I quite like looking forward to the afterlife and thinking about all that God’s done for us and is doing for us and will continue to do for us.

But being patient in tribulation, that’s not quite so easy, is it? Whatever the things are that you go through in your life, to endure them, to say, God, I’m trusting you as I go through this, that’s really hard, isn’t it?

Also hard is continuing to be patient when everything’s hunky dory, and remembering that God still exists. Paul says be constant in prayer. If everything’s going well in our lives, do we forget to pray?

Now think about the most important relationship in your earthly life, out of the humans that you know. It might be a boyfriend, girlfriend, a spouse, it might be children, parents. Whoever that is, what happens to that relationship if you stop talking to that person? If I went an entire day living in the same house as my wife and didn’t say a word to her, what would she think had happened to our relationship?

Be consistent in speaking to him about everything that’s going on in our lives. That is my recommendation to you today, but it’s also my recommendation to me, Rob Pomeroy.
