Do you want to see God? Buckle up. Matthew chapter 5 verse 8. This is Jesus talking. He said in the Sermon on the Mount, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."

Oh dear, that’s my reaction here. Am I pure in heart? I can’t really pretend that I am. I mean, pure means without impurity. Pure gold has nothing in it but gold.

A pure heart has no sin in it. How can my heart be sinless when I’m still this wretched, frail man?

But this is such a promise. Can you imagine what it’s like to see God. So glorious, magnificent? A person who we simply can’t imagine .When he’s spoken of in scripture there’s all this metaphorical language used to describe him because he’s beyond explanation. He’s beyond expression.

And a face to face encounter is promised for those who are pure in heart. That is something to aspire to.

Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. This is a prophecy from the Old Testament. This is God speaking to his people.

He will purify and cleanse us. He has purified and cleansed us by the washing of the blood of the righteous, spotless Lamb, Jesus Christ. That is how we achieve purity, through his sacrifice.

And because of that, and because of this promise, in Matthew chapter 5 verse 8 we who have been cleansed by the blood of Christ know that we are made pure and therefore we shall see God.

Take that in a moment and just worship.
