Today we meditate on a verse that’s particularly helpful and relevant for meditation. We’ll read the whole verse, including the musical direction. It’s Psalm 62, verse 1. To the Choirmaster, according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. For God alone my soul waits in silence, from him comes my salvation.
Some forms of meditation ask us to clear our minds, and we don’t do that in Christian meditation. We focus on God, we focus on his Word. But we can sit in silence as we meditate, waiting for God.
Because in meditation, we are not simply coming up with our thoughts. We are listening to the Holy Spirit, we are listening to what God has to say to us. And you can only truly listen if you stop speaking.
And as we wait in silence, we are waiting, we’re saying, to hear from God. No one else. We don’t want some clever clogs on the internet. We want to hear the words of eternal life from our Maker, recognising that from Him comes our salvation. Nobody else can save us, only God. And this is why we are so determined that we are going to wait for our God.
Because we recognise that for us, one of the most important principles is making sure that we’re saved. We want to be saved, don’t we? We want to have eternal life. We want to spend forever with God, worshipping Him.
So for that, we look to Him. We look to Him for our salvation. We look to Him for His words of eternal life.
For God alone, may our souls wait in silence. This is a good practice, isn’t it? Meditation with silence. So we are spending time listening to Him. Yes, we have a Bible full of amazing words, but God also speaks to us directly.
Will you today wait in silence for God, knowing that from Him comes your salvation? You can start with the text of this verse, which you’ll find in the description. And I pray that God will bless you and speak to you as you wait on him.
