I think I have to describe today’s verse as aspirational. I can’t say I’m where Paul was when he wrote this. It’s two Corinthians chapter 12, verse 10. For the sake of Christ, then I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

We as Christians are best relying on the strength of God. Unless the Lord builds the house, the workers labour in vain.

So we rely on God for all things. But how easy is it for us to say something like this? I am content with insults. When someone insults me, I’m okay with that. If I’m persecuted, if calamities befall me, I’m not shaken.

We have this model in Christ who went to the cross knowing this was God’s will for him, like a lamb. Are we able to submit ourselves so much to God’s rule to God’s direction in our life that we will say no matter what happens, God, your will be done. And if this currently is your will for me, then that’s okay, I trust you, whatever the challenge may be.

By no means should anyone feel condemned if they’re unable to recite this verse enthusiastically. But I would encourage you, my friend, to meditate on this, to use it as a prayer, to say, God, will you help me to be like this, change my character, help me to mature and develop? If you’ll do it, then I will too.

Lord God, this is indeed a challenge. Please help us to get to this stage where we are content that we, trust you so much that when weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities come, we are able to say, like Paul, this is okay. Because in my weakness, God, you are strong and you are glorified. Amen.
