Have we chosen who we’re going to serve? Listen to Jesus’s words in Luke chapter 9 verse 26. For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

We get this theme occasionally don’t we in the New Testament of God wanting us to be wholehearted about things. Like in Revelation The Church of Laodicea is going to be spat out of God’s mouth, because it’s neither one thing nor the other. It’s lukewarm.

We can’t sit on the fence with our faith. This is something that’s so fundamental to our understanding of reality. We either believe in Jesus or we don’t. There isn’t a halfway house here. And if we believe in Jesus, then we can’t possibly be embarrassed by him or be embarrassed to be associated with him.

How could we be embarrassed to be associated with someone who was so noble, so pure, so loving, even in human terms, that he was willing to die for us? And then this person just turns out to be the Creator of the universe, who loves us and cares for us so much, that he created a universe in which we could thrive. This isn’t someone that we need ever be ashamed of, friends.

And we will see him coming in his glory. And when he comes in his glory, we’ll be able to say, That’s my Jesus. I’m with him. Oh my, what a day that will be.

Lord Jesus, we stand with you. We are not ashamed of you. We are not ashamed of the words of truth that you have given us. We look forward to your return. And until then, our Jesus, we will proclaim your name, our risen Saviour. Amen.
