Today let’s meditate on God’s answer for us to temptation. 1 Corinthians 10 verse 13. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability but with the temptation he will also provide a way of escape that you may be able to endure it.

We live in a fallen world, my friends, and in this fallen world, there are plenty of things that are desirable to us, that our flesh requires, that are not good for us, and that are not in accordance with the will of God. We know this to be true. But there is a promise here, that God will not let us be tempted beyond our ability.

Unfortunately, that means when we succumb to temptation, that’s on us. That is our failing. That is our weakness. God has not let a temptation come in front of us that we can’t withstand.

But the other part of this promise is that he’s always going to provide a way out. When temptation comes towards us, what is our first thought? Is our first thought, "Oh. That’s desirable. I want that!" Or is it, "Help God! How do I get out of this?"

Because God says to his saints, that’s you and me, that he will give us a way out of all temptation so that we don’t need to give in. And remember what Jesus taught us to pray. Lord God, please don’t lead us into temptation.

Thank you God. That although you ask holiness of us, which is difficult, you also provide a way. You’ve provided a way in Jesus Christ who covers us with righteousness. And when we experience temptation, you’ve provided a way out.

You, God, want us to endure. You want us to be faithful to you, to the end. And you make that possible by the working of your Holy Spirit in our lives. God, we praise you. Amen.
