Do you ever feel like it’s unfair that Adam and Eve’s sin has condemned you along with the rest of humanity? Well, the Apostle Paul has got us covered. Romans, chapter 5, verse 18. Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.

In God’s universe, in God’s economy, there is this principle of inheritance. And through the act of Adam and Eve, through the sin that they committed, we inherited from them their sinful nature. We are now all fallen, and if you’ve ever struggled with sin of any kind, you know this to be true. This is a fact. We must accept it.

And it seems unfair, doesn’t it, sometimes, that it was their sin that caused us to be living in this fallen world. Nevertheless, this is the truth that we live in. We are fallen. We are sinful.

But God balances the scales beautifully. Trespass of the one, of Adam and Eve, led to condemnation. But now, one act of righteousness, just one, by Christ Jesus, gives us access to justification and eternal life.

So this is more than fair. Our sinful parents condemned us to live in a fallen world, but now God sends his solution, his own son, Jesus Christ, who by dying for us, absorbs all of that condemnation, takes all of it on himself, and we can now be justified by following him. And not only are we justified. We now inherit eternal life.

If this is unfair, it’s only unfair in that God has given us too much, more than we could ever have deserved.

Thank you, Godfor your bounty towards us. Thank you that you have broken the curse of sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, your son. We marvel at all that you have done. Amen.
