Have you rushed here from yesterday’s meditation, where Paul has been screaming out, "Save me, Lord, from this body of sin"? Well, here we are at the following verse, Romans chapter 7, verse 25. Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
Paul is aware of this dichotomy, this dual nature, that is warring inside of him. On the one hand, he is flesh and blood. He was born in sin with the inheritance from our forefather, Adam. But now he is redeemed under the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ.
And it’s this new law, this new law of God, the law of grace that he serves with his mind, knowing that irrespective of what he has done, and some of the things that Paul had done were pretty bad, irrespective of what he has done and what he is doing now and what he’s going to do, he can serve the law of God with his mind and be fully redeemed and justified before God.
We can’t get away from this. All we can do is pray for the Fruit of the Spirit to continue to grow in our life, for us to be regenerated, for us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, that mind that is serving the law of God, so that our flesh that still serves the law of sin is subdued and beaten. Hallelujah!
Thank you, Lord Jesus, that even though we wrestle with that fleshly, sinful nature, we are still redeemed, and we are still your masterpiece, and we are still being transformed, and you have not finished with us. The work of God will be completed in us on the day of Christ. We owe everything to you. Amen.
