The Bible has a lot to say about healing, but God’s timing and methods sometimes puzzle us. Whether you’re seeking healing for yourself, for someone else, or you just wish to reflect on God’s grace and power, this is an excellent theme for meditation. First, here’s a quick breathing exercise, using the breath God gives us to help settle and prepare. Three times, we’ll breathe in for eight seconds and out for eight seconds. Follow my voice and the progress bar. Breathe in.

Breathe out.

And again, breathe in.

Breathe out.

Last time, breathe in.

Breathe out.

Now before we meditate, please offer a brief prayer, in your head or out loud, thanking God for his word and telling him you would love to hear and receive from him today. I’ll give you a moment to pray.

We’ll meditate on three passages, starting with 1 Peter 2, verse 24. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. Please repeat that after me, out loud, or in your mind. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree,

that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds

you have been healed.

As a meditation aid, I’m going to ask two questions. I’ll leave the passage and the questions on screen for you. Do pause the video if you’d like more time on this. Question 1. In dying to sin, how are we healed?

Question 2. When and how was Christ’s body healed?

Our second meditation is Psalm 103, verses 2 to 3. Bless the Lord, O my soul. And forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases. Repeat that after me. Bless the Lord, O my soul.

And forget not all his benefits,

who forgives all your iniquity,

who heals all your diseases.

Two more questions. Question one. What is the psalmist’s attitude to God?

Question 2. What benefits does God give?

Our final scripture comes from Revelation 21 verse 4. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more. Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.

Please repeat that passage now. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,

And death shall be no more,

Neither shall there be mourning,

Nor crying, nor pain any more,

For the former things have passed away.

And two questions. The first is, what is it that will pass away?

And the second question: What hope does this scripture give us?

Heavenly Father, thank you for your written word and for speaking to us through the Holy Spirit and through your revelation of yourself in creation. Some things you reveal to us, other things remain mysterious. In both cases, we honour and revere you, our God. Amen.

I’ll make some space for you now to offer your own prayer to God, or simply to rest quietly in his presence as you reflect on this time of meditation.

Please come back to this meditation as often as it helps you. God is infinite, and he can show us so many different things in just one verse. With the Holy Spirit’s guidance, each time we meditate can be fresh and full of his life. Can I pray a blessing over you now?

Lord God, you know the cares and concerns of my friend, whether they be personal or for others. Where there is a petition for healing, I ask that you answer that in your grace, your mercy, and your power.

Father, where it is your will for trials to endure, may you lift up your precious child with your limitless strength and bring the comfort of your pure eternal love.

Please grant your courage to face every trial, and fill my friend with the joy of salvation and gratitude for all you have done. To you belong the power and the glory, now and always. Amen.
