It’s a sign of God’s immense grace how often he speaks to us gently when we really don’t deserve it. Meditating today on Isaiah 46 verse 9. Remember the former things of old, for I am God and there is no other. I am God and there is none like me.
God is saying to those who will listen, Have you forgotten me? Come on, remember who I am. Look back. What have I done? Tell me about that. Bring it back to your mind.
In the case of the Jewish community, the Israelites, what could they cast their minds back to? Well, how about the parting of the Red Sea? Just imagine, for a moment, you’ve gone down to the seaside, you’re there at the beach, and the sea just does that. It parts from side to side. And there’s dry land through the sea. You’d remember that for quite a long time, wouldn’t you?
What about, you’re stuck out in the desert, you’ve been there for ages, you are starting to get hungry and thirsty, you think you’re going to die, you call out to God, and boom! Food, literal food, falls from heaven onto the ground.
Remember what God has done before. He’s God. There’s no one like Him. He can feed you when there’s no food. He can cause water to gush forth from rocks. A rock! How much water do you ever get out of a rock?
This is God. Remember Him. There’s no one like Him. That’s what He says. That’s what we need to do. So often, when we are just plodding along in our lives, we think everything’s mundane and routine, and we’ve forgotten God.
We’ve forgotten his incredible power. We’ve forgotten that he controls the destiny of this entire universe. He is God. There is none like him.
Yes, Lord God, we worship you today. We remember all that you’ve done, all that you’ve done in ancient times, all that you’ve done in recent times. Thank you for securing our salvation. Thank you for caring about us. How can an infinite God care about such tiny creatures as us? But you do. You are God. There is no one like you. Amen.
