Yesterday we meditated on Galatians 5:24 and the difficulty of following the path of self control and obedience. Today we balance that with Revelation 3: 20, which speaks of the ease with which we can invite Jesus in.
Revelation 3: 20: Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Jesus Christ is using this metaphor of knocking on the door. If we today hear a knock at the front door of our house, our flat, our room, what do we do? We get up from wherever we are, we go to that door and we open it to find out who it is to let them in, perhaps. And that is how simple it is to become one of Jesus’s followers.
You hear his voice. You open the door. You draw him in and say, Jesus, come eat with me.
And so says Revelation, we don’t even need to wait for that. He’s standing at the door right now and knocking right now. Do you feel a stirring in your spirit? If you’ve not yet invited Jesus in, do you feel that stirring? Well, here’s what you do about it. You say, "Yes, Jesus, come in, be a part of my life. I want to be part of yours. I know that your way is the right way."
This path of grace is pretty simple to follow. We don’t even have to walk very far. Just to that door, open it and let him in.
Thank you, Lord God, for your simple grace. Thank you that you are only waiting for us to say "yes" to you. And we do. Yes, Lord Jesus, come in. Come dine with us. Amen.
