Transcript

You’ve made a great choice to start the day with meditation. Let’s put God first in every part of our lives. First, here’s a quick breathing exercise using the breath God gives us to help settle and prepare. Three times, we’ll breathe in for eight seconds and out for eight seconds. Follow my voice and the progress bar.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Again, breathe in.

Breathe out.

Last time, breathe in,

and breathe out.

Now before we meditate, please can you offer a brief prayer, in your head or out loud, thanking God for his word and telling him you would love to hear and receive from him today. I’ll give you a moment to pray.

We’ll meditate on three passages, starting with worship. The first is Psalm 28, verse 7. The Lord is my strength and my shield. In him my heart trusts, and I am helped. My heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

Please repeat that after me, out loud or in your mind. The Lord is my strength and my shield.

In him my heart trusts, and I am helped.

My heart exults,

and with my song I give thanks to him.

As a meditation aid, I’m going to ask two questions. I’ll leave the passage and the questions on screen for you. Do pause the video if you’d like more time on this.

Question one. How can your heart exult (or be lifted up and joyful) in God?

Question two. What three things can you thank him for at the start of your day?

Our second meditation is for practical help this day.

It’s James 1, verse 5. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Repeat that after me. If any of you lacks wisdom,

let him ask God,

who gives generously to all without reproach,

and it will be given him.

Just one question now, how might you need wisdom today?

Our final scripture comes from Colossians 3 verses 23 to 24. It encourages us to choose to glorify God today.

Whatever you do, work heartily as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Please repeat that passage now. Whatever you do, work heartily

as for the Lord and not for men,

knowing that from the Lord

you will receive the inheritance as your reward.

You are serving the Lord Christ.

And two questions. The first is, what will it mean for you to work heartily today?

And the second question, what is your spiritual inheritance in Christ?

Lord God, thank you for your word to us. Thank you that you give us everything we need for life and godliness. We submit to you this day. Amen.

I’ll make some space now for you to offer your own prayer to God, or simply to rest quietly in his presence as you prepare to face the day.

Please come back to this meditation as often as it helps you. God is infinite and he can show us so many different things in just one verse. With the Holy Spirit’s guidance, each time we meditate can be fresh and full of life.

Can I pray a blessing over you? Our gracious Father, thank you for my dear friend in Christ who waits on you now. Please will you grant the request for wisdom to walk through this day in grace and peace. God, you provide strength and comfort as we navigate this life. Please help our hearts to be inclined towards you, knowing that in all that we do, we can serve you.

Lord, where courage is needed, please bring courage. Where strength bring strength. Where insight, please share your all surpassing wisdom, so that in all my friend does, the glory may go to you. In your name, Father God, in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, and in the name of your Holy Spirit, we ask this. Amen.
