Romans chapter 8, verse 6. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the spirit is life and peace.

Paul talks about resetting our mind. Now we know, because it’s the Holy Spirit working in us, that this isn’t all our own doing. Nevertheless, he’s encouraging us to turn away from the flesh, to turn away from sin, to turn away from our carnal desires, those things that destroy us and lead to death.

You know the ones I’m talking about. There are many, there are many things that we like and enjoy, but they are destructive to us.

He says instead set our mind on the Spirit. Live in the Spirit. Live spiritual lives. Because that is going to lead to life. And peace.

And if you don’t, you get the opposite of life and peace. You get war and destruction and chaos.

And we can see that around us from people who are not following the way of Christ. We can see that in the world. We can see war and crisis and poverty and death and destruction.

So how do we do this? Well, an excellent place to start is by focusing our minds on the words of truth in the Bible. By meditating. By opening up our hearts and our minds to God, to his direction, to his purposes, to his beauty, and worshipping him.

Lord God, please work in our hearts. Lord, you know how often we find it hard to turn away from the flesh because we just don’t want to. Oh God, thank you for your patience with us as a loving father. And please help us and keep training us and guiding us away from those things that will destroy us. Amen.
