Today’s verse is extremely reassuring, I find it that way anyway. Hebrews chapter 11 verse 6. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Now at first sight we might think, how is it possible for us ever to please God? We can’t please him, can we? We are faithless people.

But no, the verse also says that those who are drawing near to God must believe that He exists. And we do! And that He rewards those who seek Him. And we believe that!

We’ve seen that all throughout Scripture, haven’t we? How people with faith talk to God. So simply the process of talking to God is evidence of that faith that we have. Simply knowing that one day he will be saying to people, "Well done good and faithful servant," that’s evidence that we know God rewards those who seek him. This is not a super high bar that we have to pass.

Now sometimes, I don’t know if you’re like me, sometimes I wonder if God is really there. Is that too shocking for me to admit publicly on YouTube? Sometimes I wonder that. But doubt isn’t the opposite of faith. God is there. It’s the evidence of faith. You must have faith first before you can doubt anything.

And so this is perfectly normal. Don’t worry if you sometimes wonder if God is really there. But also, rest assured, He is. And we can draw near to Him, believing that He exists. And so, that’s all we need for the kind of faith with which we can please God.

Thank you God that you haven’t made it difficult for us to please you. We just need to listen to your words and respond, and that is not very difficult. Thank you for your kindness and mercy towards us. We love you. Amen.
